these rates in the final column in Table 3.
Answer the following:
1. After analyzing the data in Table 3, does the salinity of the germination medium affect the
respiration rates of peas? If so, in what way (increase, decrease, etc.)?
2. If you did see that salinity had an effect, hypothesize why that might be so. (In other words,
what might the salt be doing to the peas.)
3. What is the purpose of also testing a group of germinating peas that were not exposed to a
NaCl solution (0% NaCl)?
4. What is the independent variable in this experiment (what factor are you manipulating)?
5. What is the dependent variable in this experiment (what are you measuring to see the effect
of the independent variable)?
