And so what we're doing, oops, that's supposed to be zero, when we are writing something in scientific notation is essentially we are writing it in the form of a number that's between zero and 10, not including 10, times 10 to some power.

So essentially if we had say one million, it would be one times 10 to the six power because it would be one with six zeros would give us one times 10 to the six power.

So in order to convert 8 ,300 ,000 into scientific notation, what we're going to do is we're going to start with our decimal right here at the end because it's at the end of our whole number.

And essentially what we're going to do is we're going to count how many decimal places.
