- Transaction processing system (TPS) -recording sales to customers recording payroll transactions, i.e. hours worked or paycheques for employees Decision support system (DSS) -DSS could be used to calculate the potential effects of changes in sales prices of grapes or wine, or the effect of changes in employee wages upon overall costs at the vineyard Supply chain management system -the vineyard can track its orders from liquor stores or other purchases of its wine, to determine what has been shipped and to track the status of shipments of cases of wine E-commerce system -the vineyard can accept payments from customers via debit or credit card or via an online shopping cart C. For each of the following areas of automated business processes, consider the sale of gasoline or other refined products by Chevron to commercial clients. Develop criteria that could be used to improve and assess performance. (Refer to Section 2.1, p. 38-41) Executing the Process 1. The order should take less than two business days to fulfill (from the time of receiving the customer order to shipment to the customer). This criterion is related to efficiency (doing the task at optimum cost) 2. The correct product and the correct amount of product ordered should be shipped. This criterion is related to effectiveness (doing what matters and doing it well). Capturing and Storing Process Data 1. Customer data (such as shipment location) should be entered accurately and compared to existing master file data automatically. This criterion relates to the quality of the input process data and of stored process data and affects both effectiveness and efficiency, since correct data is needed to complete the task (effectiveness) and to send shipments promptly and avoid the need for data corrections (efficiency). 2. Data about the process is available to relevant functional areas on a need-to-know basis, once passwords have been entered. This criterion relates to productivity. 1
Monitoring Process Performance 1. Exception reports are produced to list when products have not been shipped on a timely basis and are reviewed by managers. This criterion relates to customer satisfaction. 2. Reports of unpaid accounts are sent to accounting (accounts payable) managers so that the customer can be contacted for payment and to determine whether there were any quality or shipment errors that could be the cause of non-payment. This criterion relates to quality and effectiveness. Data collection -private data should be collected only with an individual's consent, so police forces could verify that drivers licence issuers have consent (via their privacy policies), before collecting specific data on drivers Data accuracy -police forces could use data collected from multiple websites as a cross check on accuracy Data confidentiality -police stations should have strong security systems (i.e. employees have access to the data on a need to know basis only) Authorization (rights and privileges are clearly established.) -clear responsibilities for data access should be assigned, with associated user identification profiles and access passwords that are changed regularly (for example, the user identification profile would not
