Political Interest
A political issue that I care about that would benefit from political action is global climate
change. Climate Change is a real issue that is having a negative effect on the world environment
right now. If the United States and other nations across the globe does not take the position to
take care to stop the advancement of climate change than the earth as we know it now will be a
disaster in the next 50 years. An environmental interest group would make more political
candidates talk more about saving the earth and force the issue of renewable energy. Although, I
do believe that political interest group plays a negative role in today's democratic political
system.
In addition, interest groups like the NRA and moveon.org have a negative impact on the
political system because they all have influences on what goes on in congress and senate. For
instance, majority of republicans that are in congress and the senate usually do not do anything
when it comes to gun control. The reason for that is because majority of republicans are funded
by the National Rifle Association (NRA) which is an interest group that promotes having less
gun restrictions. This can be discouraging to people that were victims of gun violence because
politicians would care more about what the interest group wants than the people that they are
supposed to represent. According to NBC news the NRA spends 100 million dollars each senate

Finally, I believe that an environmental interest group would make politicians more
aware of global climate change. Interest groups such as the NRA can have a negative impact on
politicians that are in congress and the senate for having an influence when it comes to gun

control laws. I believe that we should have a government that works for the interest of the
average working class citizen not the interest of big millionaires.
