Organ Systems Assignment In the table below identify the major organs (or structures as appropriate) for each of the major organ systems. Then Identify the major function or functions associated with that system. We will not be discussing the information in class (as a general topic), however you will be responsible for this information on your exams Once complete, save the document as a .doc, .docx or .pdf document and submit through the appropriate blackboard assignment link. Organ System Integumentary Organs Skin Exocrine glands Functions Skin: Covers and protects the body from outside sources. Produces sweat, regulates temperature, excrete waste, and also sensory sensations. Contains 3 layers, the epidermis, dermis, and hypodermis Exocrine glands: includes sweat glands, salivary glands, mammary glands, and other glands as well. Bones: provides the body support, structure, and protects soft organs. Tendons: Tissue that joins the muscles to the bones. Cartilage: soft and flexible bone that forms parts of the nose and ears, protects bones against frictions. Ligament & joint: Attaches one bone to another bone, such as the hips and knees. Smooth muscular tissue: usually involuntary muscles that lines the blood vessels, stomach and intestine. Skeletal muscle: Holds the skeletal frame together and allows human to be able to move around, such as walking. Cardiac muscle: The heart, allows the heart to beat and provide blood to other parts of the body. Neurons: nerve cells that transmit information and electrical signals. Brain: protected by the skull and controls thinking. memory, balance, and involuntary actions like digestions and breathing Spinal cord: The sets that runs down the spine, allows sensation to the body. Hypothalamus: produces hormones that regulated different parts of the body such as the reproductive and digestive system. Pineal gland: produces melatonin Pituitary glands: controls all other hormones in the endocrine system Thyroid gland: stores all hormone and controls metabolism, body weight, and heart arte. Parathyroid gland: produce hormone involved in the white blood cells Adrenal gland: produces steroid hormones. Heart: propels blood Blood vessels: transport blood around the body Skeletal Bones Tendons Cartilage Ligaments & Joint Muscular Smooth muscular tissue Skeletal muscle Cardiac muscle Nervous Neurons Brain Spinal cord Endocrine Hypothalamus Pineal gland Pituitary glands Thyroid gland Parathyroid gland Adrenal gland Cardiovascular Heart Blood vessels Arteries Capillaries Veins Blood Arteries: carries blood from the heart ot the rest of the body Capillaries: permits diffusion between blood and interstitial fluids. Veins: Transport blood back to the heart Blood: transport oxygen, carbon dioxide and blood cells. Also delivers nutrients and hormones and removes waste products. Lymphatic Spleen Thymus Tonsils Appendix Spleen: filter the blood, and removes old or damaged blood cells. Also aid in destruction of viruses and bacteria. Thymus: produces T cells to kill bacteria and viruses. Located in the thoracic cavity. Tonsils: helps fight infection, but could also get red and swollen when infected. Appendix: releases mucus into he large intestine, it is known as one of the organs that doesn't provide much function to the human, and wouldn't effect the h
