FUSION OF POWERS
vote of no confidence -- parliament holds a successful no confidence vote that will result in the resignation of the prime minister and new elections will be held. majority party in legislature can vote to choose new executive, current executive can resign and hand off power to a successor or dissolve government and call for new elections. irregular elections generally, there is no set time for elections snap elections, the prime minister can dissolve government and call for new elections if he or she chooses.
PRESIDENTIAL SYSTEM AND SEPARATION OF POWER
in a presidential system, there is no such thing as a vote of no confidence, nor can the president decide to dissolve congress. other than the regularly scheduled election, the only way to remove a president, short of death or voluntary resignation, is to impeach and convict the president. the house of representatives passes articles of impeachment by majority vote. these are allegations of wrongdoing, not the final act of removal. the senate, to convict, must approve the articles of by a 2/3rds vote. if convicted, the president is removed from office, and the office filled by the vice. the only way a member of congress can be removed involuntarily is a vote by the respective chamber to remove the member. there is no impeachment process, and conviction of a crime does not automatically disqualify a member of congress from serving in the office.
