Problem 1

Sketch an engine, having in mind the core compressor and turbine you have specified. An important component which we have neglected in this course is the combustor. Use the engine crosssections in Fig. 5.4 to obtain some idea of this.

Try to avoid making the flow go through tortuous ducts to change radius. Try to put in bearing supports. To get everything to match is extremely difficult and you will not have the time to try many schemes. The main thing is to get a feel for the difficulty involved and the scope for different solutions. (It is recommended that this is done on squared paper.)
